How do I get started on an exercise program?
First check with your doctor to make sure everything’s working properly before you start exercising, especially if you:
- are over 35 years of age
- have been inactive for a long period of time
- have any kind of a medical condition
- smoke
What is the best time of the day to work out?
There is no “best workout time” that works for everyone. Although researchers have discovered periods of the day during which people seem to be at their most energetic, this does not necessarily translate into one perfect workout time for everyone. This energetic time of day also falls within the work day of most people.
Your best workout time is the time that will allow you to workout consistently and without interruption. Your lifestyle, work schedule, and family commitments will determine what time works for you.
Should I stretch before a workout?
You should never stretch a cold muscle. Stretching before you run serves no purpose and can lead to possible injury. Your muscles should be warm before you stretch. Run or do some light cardio activity for about ten minutes, then you can stretch and begin your workout run. To improve flexibility, help prevent injury, and to cool down, stretch again right after your run when you muscles are at their warmest.
How should I cool down after exercise?
Make sure to allow for cooling down after aerobic exercise. Do slow walking, cycling, or other easy activity after a vigorous workout until your breathing returns to normal
How many times a week should I be doing cardio?
That depends on your goals, however if you want to lose weight, aim for 3-5 days of cardio (for 30 or more minutes) per week.
